Welcome to Change

nurturing creativity

GPL aims to make a shift from common coaching methods, that can limit learning and enjoyment for players and coaches, towards more fulfilling experiences that nurture passion and potential for everyone involved.

Whilst preparing for this Course, I was reminded that anything to do with change can be enlightening and freeing, but also challenging and uncomfortable.

We are currently experiencing much of the challenge and discomfort the coronavirus  has imposed on us, let’s bring on the good, shall we?

My wish for us would be to have ‘new eyes’ to see. To really get to know WHO exactly is standing in front of us, and THEIR right to an empowering experience of Sport that they ENJOY first and foremost, but can also explore their OWN unique potential and capabilities with us supporting them as long as they need.

There’s too much evidence of drop-out, burn-out and injuries, not to mention the ‘politics’ of  how the cultures are led. Some can feel the futility of traditional coaching methods which is causing this mess while others choose to continue the ways of what’s always been done, because that’s what’s accepted. That’s the norm. To challenge to norm could get hard…

So the question then turns from ‘Are you OPEN for Change?’, to ‘Are you WILLING to Change?’

As Morpheus says in the following 2 minute clip from The Matrix,

“It’s this feeling that has brought you to me… Do you want to know what it is?”

Come on, Let’s explore this together, will you be open to collaborating and contributing your experiences ?

“You can’t be told, you have to feel it for yourself”

So you have a choice.

“Take the Blue Pill, the story ends here.”

Keep doing what you’re doing.

Keep doing what the majority are doing.

No one will question you.

In fact, most will praise your ‘professionalism’, they will admire your ‘leadership’ as you take charge and make all the decisions, control the players and lead a good-looking, well organised and structured session. You could well win plenty of games too if you select the best players, focus on providing immediate answers to players during the game and making short-term decisions like specialising in positions, and training more often and for longer.

But we’re finding out where that’s leading players long term.

Broken dreams and Broken bodies.

“Take the Red Pill and stay in Wonderland”

Change your world and the world’s of the ones around you.

Step into a Learning Journey.

It’s a way of looking at the world. It’s called being a LEARNER.

You’ll never be the same again, as Neo challenges:

“I don’t know the future…I came here to tell you how it’s going to begin.”

“I’m going to show you a world without rules and controls,

without borders or boundaries.

A world, where anything is possible.

Where we go from there is a choice I leave to you..”

So for the next however many weeks, months and years beyond, let’s not only be open but willing to change and to support each other as we go on this GAME PLAY LEARN Journey. Let’s fly to new heights.

  1. What’s your biggest challenge in Coaching?
  2. In relation to your Coaching, have you always been a Life-Learner open to questioning ‘Why do we what we do?’
  3. Have you had experiences of getting stuck in Traditional Learning Methods such as being instructional, technically- focused and performance-based?
